Evidence of our nation's birth abounds in Boston, a hub of revolution that is essentially the oldest city in the United States. Visitors are compelled to walk the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail around the city center, and bear witness to 16 historical locations related to the history of America.
Art, music and theater devotees will find much to embrace here, while sports fans have their choice of baseball (see the Red Sox at Fenway), basketball (Celtics), football (Patriots) and hockey (Bruins). And hey, everyone must eat, so don't miss the universally praised local seafood, from clam chowder to lobster.
Nearly 20 million people visit Boston annually, where they'll walk the Freedom Trail, visit "cradle of liberty" Faneuil Hall, view the collections at the Museum of Fine Arts, and ride a Swan Boat on the lake at Boston Common.

Boston Public Garden
This area was mostly marshes and mudflats until being transformed into a beautiful 24 acre garden in 1837. The swan boats are a popular tourist attraction here, as well as an impressive statue of George Washington not as President, but as the Army’s Commander-in-Chief.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood is housed in a Venetian-inspired building created by art collector Isabella Stewart Gardner to display her personal collection. Its galleries surround a plant-filled courtyard, with rooms containing paintings, sculptures, tapestries, furniture, manuscripts, and decorative arts arranged according to Gardner’s vision. Works by artists including Rembrandt, Titian, Raphael, Botticelli, and Fra Angelico are part of the collection. The museum also includes a contemporary wing designed by Renzo Piano, which provides space for exhibitions, education, and performances. Its living courtyard remains a central feature, with seasonal plants creating a changing backdrop for the surrounding galleries.
